Empress Auguste Victoria – Photographs of an Era & Her Life at a Glance
The historical photographs of Empress Auguste Victoria (1858–1921) depict the last German empress in representative moments of her time: as the wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II, at official occasions, in her family circle, or as a patron of social projects. Born as Princess of Schleswig-Holstein, she became the wife of the future emperor in 1881 and, as a deeply religious monarch, shaped the image of Wilhelmine society. Her commitment to Protestant church construction and charitable institutions earned her the nickname "Kirchenjuste" (Church Justice). After her husband's abdication, she followed him into exile in the Netherlands, where she died in 1921.
