This original photograph of Empress Auguste Victoria, personally signed by her in 1914, is a significant testament to the royal representational culture of the early 20th century. The photograph likely dates from 1913 and was produced by the photographer Voigt, Frankfurt am Main / Homburg vor der Höhe — a well-known portrait photographer of the Wilhelminian era.
The photograph shows light stains and a missing piece at the bottom edge, but is overall an authentic and rare collector's item. Particularly noteworthy is its presentation: The photograph is housed in a fire-gilded ornate frame, decorated with a stylized empress's crown and garland ornamentation — typical design elements of court portrait frames around 1910.
The frame is well preserved and emphasizes the artistic and historical significance of the piece. The dimensions of the photograph are approx. 20 × 26 cm, and the dimensions of the frame are approx. 25.5 × 40 cm.
Such royal presentation frames with autographed portraits are extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors of Imperial memorabilia, Wilhelminian court art, and historical photography. This specimen offers an authentic insight into the representational culture of the German imperial house at the beginning of the 20th century.
