Photos of Prince Adalbert – The Naval Prince in the Mirror of History
The photographs of Prince Adalbert of Prussia (1884–1948) depict the third-born son of Kaiser Wilhelm II in his role as an officer in the Imperial Navy and representative of the House of Hohenzollern. He joined the navy at the age of ten and later became a corvette captain. The pictures show him in uniform, on trips to Brazil, Beijing, and Athens, as well as at official occasions with his wife, Princess Adelheid of Saxe-Meiningen , and their children.
During the First World War, Adalbert commanded, among other commands, the Naval Regiment and the light cruiser Danzig . After the collapse of the monarchy, he withdrew into private life and later lived in Switzerland under the name Count von Lingen . The photographs from this period reflect his transformation from imperial officer to withdrawn family man.
