Photos of Crown Prince Wilhelm – insights into the life of the last heir to the German throne
The historical photographs of Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia (1882–1951) portray him as a central figure of the Wilhelmine era. As the eldest son of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Auguste Victoria, he was the last Crown Prince of the German Empire and the Kingdom of Prussia. The images document him in uniform, at military parades, with his family, and in moments of courtly representation. Particularly striking are images from the First World War, which underscore his role as a military leader.
After the end of the monarchy in 1918, Wilhelm lived for a time in exile on the Dutch island of Wieringen and later returned to Germany. The photographs from this period reflect his transformation from heir to the throne to private citizen.
