Photos of Prince August Wilhelm – The controversial Hohenzollern through the ages
The photographs of Prince August Wilhelm of Prussia (1887–1949) depict the fourth son of Kaiser Wilhelm II in various phases of his life—from imperial officer to Nazi Party politician to convicted official after World War II. As a member of the imperial family, he grew up in the New Palace in Potsdam and later studied in Bonn, Berlin, and Strasbourg. In 1908, he married Princess Alexandra Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein , with whom he had a son: Alexander Ferdinand of Prussia .
Particularly striking are photos from the 1930s that show him as a sympathizer of the Nazi regime—a role that politically discredited him and later led to his internment by the Allies. After his prison sentence, he lived a secluded life and died of lung cancer in Stuttgart in 1949.
