Photos of Prince Oskar of Prussia – The quiet Hohenzollern between tradition and change

The photographs of Prince Oskar of Prussia (1888–1958) depict the fifth-born son of Kaiser Wilhelm II in his role as an officer, family man, and later as a dedicated representative of the Order of St. John. As a commander in the First World War, he served in the 1st Foot Guards Regiment, among others, and was wounded several times. The images from this period show him in field-gray uniform, often with a serious expression—a contrast to later portraits that depict him as a cultured representative of the House of Hohenzollern.

After the war, Oskar devoted himself increasingly to charitable work and in 1926 became Master of the Balley Brandenburg of the Order of St. John , a position he held until his death. His marriage to Ina Marie von Rußwurm produced four children.
