Photos from the House of Baden during the Imperial Era – Splendour, Politics and Family Representation

The photographs from the House of Baden during the Imperial period (1871–1918) depict members of the Grand Ducal family in representative roles: at court ceremonies, in uniforms, at social events, and in family circles. Particularly noteworthy are images of Grand Duke Friedrich I of Baden (1826–1907) , who was considered a liberal monarch and patron of science and culture, and of Grand Duchess Luise of Baden , who was strongly committed to social institutions.

The images reflect the connection between Baden's aristocratic tradition and the Wilhelminian spirit. Karlsruhe Palace, Mannheim Palace, and Baden-Baden Palace served as backdrops for many of these photographs, which are now considered valuable historical documents.
