Description

This collection of six water glasses, dating from around 1890, combines historical elegance, royal provenance, and the fine craftsmanship of the late Imperial era. The glasses are made of light, clear glass and feature delicate engraving on the lower third, which adds a subtle decorative texture to the ensemble.

Particularly noteworthy is the base of each glass, where the mirror-inverted monogram "WR" – Wilhelm Rex is engraved beneath the Prussian crown. This engraving refers directly to Emperor Wilhelm II, making the glasses rare examples of court table culture.

All six glasses are in excellent condition, with no chips or damage – a rare find for collectors of imperial glass, imperial court dinnerware, and representative objects of German history.

Drinking Culture in General

The drinking culture at the Prussian imperial court under Wilhelm II was a representative blend of courtly etiquette, military discipline, and deliberately staged imperial self-representation. It combined traditional Prussian rigor with international influences and reflected the monarch's political and social role. Especially at state banquets, receptions, and military festivities, the selection and presentation of beverages became a visible expression of imperial power and courtly culture.
