Emperor Wilhelm II's Journey to Palestine

From October 11 to November 26, 1898, Emperor Wilhelm II undertook his journey to Palestine, at the climax of which he consecrated the German Church of the Redeemer (in Jerusalem).

As part of his trip to Palestine, he visited cities that were then part of the Ottoman Empire, including Constantinople, Haifa, Jaffa, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem.

Preparations for the imperial couple's journey had begun as early as spring. On the morning of October 29, the imperial couple arrived on white horses in white summer coats. Emperor Wilhelm also visited the Mount of Olives and later described his uplifting feeling while being there, where the Redeemer fought the battle of all battles for humanity.

The surrounding watercolor shows the visit of the imperial couple with their entourage upon their return from the Mount of Olives to Jerusalem.

Friedrich Perlberg, son of Christian P. Watercolorist and landscape painter (particularly known for his Oriental paintings). Born April 24, 1848, in Nuremberg; died February 14, 1921, in Munich. Studied under August von Kreling (1868 / 1871). Oriental journey to Egypt, Nubia, and Sudan in 1886

He accompanied the journey of Emperor Wilhelm II to Palestine in 1898.
