This extraordinary gift pin from Kaiser Wilhelm II dates from a time when the Berlin court still existed and imperial representational culture was in full bloom. It was crafted by court jeweler Louis Werner, who had his sales rooms on Friedrichstraße, Berlin. Very fine workmanship with the typical Wilhelminian era design language and the central emblem: a large, deep blue enamel "W" for Wilhelm II, framed in a gold-colored laurel wreath and surmounted by a detailed imperial crown. The pin is a classic example of the high-quality court badges and honorary pins of the late Wilhelminian era.

However, its provenance is particularly remarkable. According to the handwritten note, the pin was gifted in exile in Doorn in 1941 – at a time when Wilhelm II had already been living in Dutch exile for decades. The text describes a personal encounter "after a dinner" in the smoking room, where the former emperor presented the pin with the words: "You should not think that kings are unthinkable." Afterwards, Empress Hermine opened the case and personally pinned it on the recipient. The note concludes with the remark that they were in Doorn for "restoration work" – a rare, personal detail from the exile environment.

Thus, this piece combines imperial court culture with the late life of Wilhelm II and is of particular interest both as a historical memento and as a collector's item from the Wilhelminian era. The combination of the enamel monogram, golden wreath, imperial crown, and the documented presentation in exile makes the pin a unique testimony to German history.
