Empress Auguste Victoria was known for presenting Bible gifts on special occasions – for example, at wedding anniversaries, to distinguished personalities, or during political events in the German Empire. One such gift Bible comes from Görlitz, presented on November 24, 1896. It is a Luther Bible, 1892 edition, equipped with gilt edges, a clasp, and metal fittings on the four corners of the front and back covers.

Inside is the original dedication from the Empress, which explicitly refers to Psalm 131 – an indication of humility, trust, and inner peace, central themes of Auguste Victoria’s piety. The dedication is signed “Auguste Victoria * Empress & Queen.” The handwriting appears almost illegible, but it precisely matches the Empress’s characteristic script.

This historic Luther Bible was passed down through the family for generations – a sign of its high sentimental value. Subsequent owners have also left their mark in the Bible, so it is now not only an imperial-era souvenir but also a family heirloom with documented provenance.
